Indie developer removes their game from Xbox stores in solidarity with pro-Palestine boycott

Tenderfoot Tactics is a captivating turn-based indie game that I truly admired when it was released. It can still be found on Steam and is definitely worth checking out. However, as of today, it will no longer be available on the Xbox Store. The development team made the decision to remove the game from Microsoft’s storefronts in support of the BDS boycott due to reported connections with the Israeli military.

“The Tenderfoot Tactics team has chosen to withdraw our game from sale on Xbox in solidarity with the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign,” stated designer badru on Bluesky. “We hope that Microsoft will heed the voices of their employees and customers and cease all business dealings with the Israeli military, which has been involved in what we perceive as a genocide in Gaza over the past 18 months.”

Earlier this month, Microsoft terminated two software engineers who protested against the company’s ties with the Israeli military. In a statement to PC Gamer, Microsoft emphasized the importance of allowing all voices to be heard without causing disruptions to business operations.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the current Palestinian death toll has exceeded 50,000 since October 7th, 2023, although Israel disputes these figures. The BDS movement has labeled Microsoft as “perhaps the most complicit tech company in Israel’s illegal apartheid regime and ongoing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians.”
