If you’re struggling to play tactics sim Menace, it could be because your antivirus is randomly deleting files

This past week marked the early access debut of Menace, a turn-based tactics game developed by the creators of Battle Brothers. Julian has been thoroughly enjoying his time playing the game, mastering the importance of having spare ammo and conducting proper reconnaissance. Fortunately, the only hiccup he encountered was his antivirus mistakenly flagging and deleting some game files, as mentioned in the patch notes for the game’s first major update.

According to a Steam post, some antivirus programs incorrectly identify the ‘GameAssembly.dll’ file as malware, rendering the game unplayable. The solution? Simply whitelist the ‘GameAssembly.dll’ and ‘Menace.exe’. An easy fix to get back into the action.

It’s perplexing why certain antivirus software has taken issue with Menace, leading to some skepticism. After all, Steam games are not immune to malware. On the other hand, perhaps your antivirus is trying to shield you from the embarrassment of falling prey to basic space pirates. Imagine being a distinguished member of the Terran Congressional Republic Navy!

In addition to the existing pirate threats, the update introduces new adversaries: “pirate veteran scavengers”, “pirate veteran scavenger armor”, and the intimidating “pirate heavy machinegun truck”. Julian, wipe away those tears and help me decipher these various game adjustments. They’ve enhanced the splash screen for ultra-wide monitors, a welcome improvement. However, the mention of “anti-tank mines now also trigger for especially large units other than vehicles” raises some questions. Are you the one setting traps, Julian, or are you often caught in them?

The update also includes significant balance changes. Laser rifles and plasma rifles now utilize a heat mechanic instead of conventional ammunition, while pirate EMP units are equipped with a motion scanner accessory. This addition is sure to catch someone off guard (likely Julian). Are you currently immersed in the world of Menace? It appears to offer a challenging turn-based experience, regardless of what your antivirus software may suggest.
