HTC Reduces Price of Vive XR Elite to $900
HTC has recently announced a price cut for its flagship standalone headset, the Vive XR Elite, reducing it from $1,100 to $900. This move aims to make the device more competitive in the market.
Update (August 12th, 2024): HTC has extended the price reduction of the Vive XR Elite to the UK as well, where it will be available for £900.
The original article discussing the initial price drop continues below.
Launched in February 2023, the Vive XR Elite was positioned as a direct competitor to the Quest Pro, offering a compact design and mixed reality capabilities.
Shortly after its release, Meta reduced the price of the Quest Pro, narrowing the gap between the two devices and affecting one of the Vive XR Elite’s key selling points.
With the new price of $900, HTC is looking to boost sales of the Vive XR Elite in the US, a market where the XR segment has seen strong consumer interest.
Furthermore, HTC is currently running promotions for bundles of the Vive XR Elite and Vive Ultimate Tracker in the US until August 31st, available on Vive.com:
- VIVE XR Elite + Ultimate Tracker 3 trackers + 1 dongle for $1,398
- VIVE XR Elite + Ultimate Tracker 5 trackers + 1 dongle for $1,696
Moreover, HTC recently teased a new XR headset in a video, hinting at a potential successor to the Vive XR Elite.
While details are scarce, a leak suggests that the upcoming headset could be an evolution of the Vive Focus 3, potentially named Vive Focus 4, with similar features but enhanced functionality.
If the leak is accurate, HTC may need to ensure that the new headset does not compromise the Vive XR Elite’s capabilities, especially considering the competitive landscape with Meta’s Quest lineup.
