How to reset the YouTube algorithm

How to reset the YouTube algorithm

Have you ever felt like your YouTube algorithm is stuck in a loop? It’s easy to get recommendations on things you’re trying to avoid, and clicking on them only reinforces the cycle. But fear not, you can take control of the algorithm and reset it. Just like we discussed how to reset the Instagram algorithm, here’s how you can do the same for YouTube.

Delete everything from your YouTube history

To get started, go to myactivity.google.com. Here, you can delete all your Google activities, including your YouTube watch history. You can filter down to see only your YouTube videos by selecting YouTube History and then Manager History. From there, you can manually delete any videos that you don’t want influencing your algorithm. You can even search for specific topics and delete related videos. If you want to completely reset your YouTube algorithm, you can delete everything by clicking the Delete button and selecting Delete all time.

After confirming, your YouTube watch history will be deleted, and your homepage will be empty. To watch something, you’ll need to use search or go to the subscriptions page.

Your homepage will start to show videos again as you watch more. Keep in mind that your algorithm is still influenced by your subscriptions, Chrome history, and other Google data. If you want to keep your YouTube homepage blank, you can turn off all YouTube history on myactivity.google.com.

If you want to completely avoid Google tracking, consider using Freetube, a privacy-focused application that doesn’t store your watch history in the cloud. It’s available for Linux, macOS, and Windows and offers features like turning off comments and recommended videos. While it doesn’t support ads, it provides a more private viewing experience.
