A new feature in iOS 18 allows users to remove app names from the iPhone’s Home Screen. This can give your Home Screen a cleaner look and feel. If you prefer a less cluttered appearance, you might find this feature appealing. It’s a simple change that can be easily reversed. Here’s how to do it!
Large Icon Mode
Large Icon Mode enlarges the app icons and removes the text labels beneath them. This change does not disrupt the layout of your apps or move them to another screen. Your grid of apps will remain unchanged.
Even with app names removed, you can still search for apps using Spotlight Search and view labels within app categories. This ensures that functionality is not compromised while using Large Icon Mode.
In addition to removing app names, you can also customize the background lighting and colors of your screen. Options include Light, Dark, Automatic, and Tinted (although Tinted may not be to everyone’s taste).
Follow these steps to remove app names from below the icons on your iPhone’s Home Screen:
- Long-press on any blank area of your Home Screen until the apps start shaking.
- Tap Edit in the top-left corner of your screen.
- Select Customize.
- At the bottom of the screen, switch from Small to Large to remove app names. The changes will be immediate. You can switch back to Small if desired.
- Below the size toggle, experiment with the different background lighting modes.
You can also remove the Search field from your Home Screen by navigating to Settings > Home Screen & App Library and toggling Show on Home Screen.
