HONOR To Release AI Deepfake Detection Globally In April 2025

Leading up to MWC 2025, HONOR has revealed that its groundbreaking AI Deepfake Detection technology, first showcased at IFA 2024, will be accessible globally starting in April 2025. This cutting-edge technology is specifically designed to assist users in identifying manipulated media by offering real-time AI analysis of video and image content, providing immediate alerts for potential deepfake material.

Deepfakes refer to AI-generated synthetic media that modify images, videos, or audio to convincingly replicate real individuals. Utilizing advanced deep learning techniques like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), these creations have become increasingly sophisticated, raising concerns about their implications for misinformation, fraud, and digital security. Notable instances include viral deepfake videos of Tom Cruise (on TikTok in 2021) and altered scenes from Back to the Future.

The exponential rise of deepfakes has prompted significant concerns. According to the Entrust Cybersecurity Institute, a deepfake attack occurred every five minutes in 2024. A separate study by Deloitte in 2024 found that 59% of respondents struggled to differentiate between human-generated and AI-generated content. Furthermore, 84% of generative AI users advocate for content labeling to enhance transparency.

Efforts are underway by organizations like the Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to establish industry-wide standards for verifying the authenticity of digital content. HONOR’s technology contributes to this initiative by detecting subtle inconsistencies such as:

  • Pixel-level synthetic imperfections
  • Border compositing artifacts
  • Inter-frame continuity issues
  • Anomalies in face-to-ear ratio, hairstyle, and facial features

Upon detecting manipulated content, users receive immediate alerts to assist them in making informed decisions. Marco Kamiya of UNIDO has emphasized the significance of deepfake detection as a security measure for mobile devices and its role in combatting digital fraud.

In this era of digitalization, privacy security has become paramount in our daily lives. As we immerse ourselves further into the digital realm, a wealth of our private information is stored in digital space – from our daily activities and financial data to social interactions and personal preferences.” said Kamiya.

HONOR is set to unveil more details about the global rollout of its AI-driven technologies during a keynote at MWC 2025, where the company will introduce its HONOR ALPHA PLAN.

The keynote event is scheduled for Sunday, March 2nd, at 16:30 CET. Stay informed about HONOR’s latest announcements at MWC by following the official HONOR @ MWC 2025 page and social media channels.
