George Zhao, CEO of HONOR Device Co., Ltd, during his keynote address at Vivatech 2024
George Zhao, CEO of HONOR Device Co., Ltd, presented a keynote speech at VivaTech 2024 in Paris last week, unveiling HONOR’s Four-Layer AI Architecture and upcoming Gen-AI experiences with Google Cloud. Through its innovative on-device AI approach and partnership with Google, the smartphone manufacturer aims to elevate user experiences on its highly anticipated devices. Additionally, he introduced HONOR’s collaboration with the iconic Harcourt studio, renowned for its classic black-and-white celebrity portraits.
The Four-Layer AI Architecture focuses on integrating AI into MagicOS, its operating system. This architecture consists of four key layers: the Cross-device and Cross-OS AI at the foundational layer enable users to share computing resources and services across devices and operating systems. The Platform-level AI strives to deliver a personalized operating system with an intent-based user interface and tailored resource allocation. The App-level AI will provide a wide range of Gen-AI applications, while the top layer, Interface to Cloud-AI services, grants access to AI-powered cloud services. Each layer contributes to a comprehensive AI experience, facilitating personalized interactions, resource allocation, and cloud service access while prioritizing user privacy.
Magic Portal, a feature of MagicOS 8.0 branded as “the industry’s first intent-based UI,” simplifies complex tasks based on user behavior. With support for various applications across different scenarios, Magic Portal aims to offer seamless and intelligent AI experiences.
During his address, George Zhao revealed that the upcoming HONOR 200 Series smartphone will revolutionize portrait photography with AI-enhanced features inspired by Studio Harcourt, famous for its iconic portrait photography. By utilizing AI to emulate Studio Harcourt’s lighting and shadow effects process, the HONOR 200 Series pledges to deliver studio-quality portraits with every click. The smartphone is set to launch in Paris on June 12th, so stay tuned for further details.
Furthermore, HONOR’s dedication to democratizing AI extends to the MagicOS 8.0 rollout, reaching a broader audience by supporting its HONOR Magic V2 and HONOR 90 devices. This initiative aligns with HONOR’s user-centric design philosophy, emphasizing user empowerment and privacy in AI integration across devices.
At the event, a panel discussion explored the future of multimodal interaction, underlining the potential of on-device AI to enhance convenience and privacy protection. Dr. Justine Cassell highlighted the increasing acceptance of AI incorporating verbal and nonverbal cues, envisioning the adoption of multimodally-sensitive AI on smartphones.
