I had the opportunity to review the Honor Magic V3 a year ago and the Magic V2 in January 2024, both of which left me thoroughly impressed. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 I reviewed in 2023, the Honor devices stood out due to their display design, phone dimensions, and other features like battery life.
Now, Honor has introduced the Magic V5, which is incredibly thin at just 8.8mm for the ivory white model, making it the thinnest inward-folding phone available. While I typically don’t pay much attention to the thickness of traditional slab phones, with foldables, a thinner design makes the device more comparable in size to non-foldable phones.
The Honor Magic V5 boasts smaller dimensions than the Honor Magic7 Pro and is only 0.6mm thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
In addition to the slim profile, Honor has made significant upgrades to the phone, including an enhanced camera system with improvements to the periscope and ultrawide lenses. The internal display has been upgraded with a larger size, higher resolution, and increased peak brightness. The battery life has seen a significant improvement, which is always a welcome addition, especially for foldable devices. Additionally, the chipset has been upgraded, as expected.
Overall, the Honor Magic V5 continues to be one of the top foldable phones on the market, offering a more appealing specification than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7.
