Metroid Prime 4 is set to release sometime this year, and reports have surfaced that Amazon is starting to cancel orders.
Believe it or not, it has been eight years since the initial announcement of Metroid Prime 4, and six years since the game underwent a development restart at Retro Studios. Nintendo finally re-revealed the game last June, adding the subtitle “Beyond” and showcasing gameplay for the first time. Despite the long wait, some fans may have had their game on pre-order since the beginning. However, if you pre-ordered through Amazon, it’s advisable to check if your order is still intact, as several users have reported cancellations.
A post on the Metroid subreddit revealed that many users had their Amazon pre-orders cancelled, some mentioning the application of pre-order discounts. Given that Amazon rarely offers such discounts for video game pre-orders nowadays, it’s not surprising that the company would retract these offers. Additionally, there’s speculation that Nintendo might price Metroid Prime 4 at $70, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
One user on Resetera shared the email notification they received about the cancelled order, citing “lack of availability” as the reason. This led to humorous (and not-so-humorous) speculations that the game might become a Switch 2 exclusive. However, considering Breath of the Wild also released on the Wii U, such a move from Nintendo would be unexpected. Moreover, Nintendo recently released a list of games coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2025, making a sudden switch unlikely. While the cancellations may be frustrating for those who had discounts, it’s probably best to consider alternative retailers.
