Hades II has recently received its second major update during its early access phase, prompting me to dive back into the game. Despite already spending over 30 hours playing, I limited my gameplay to avoid burnout before the official 1.0 release. However, with the latest update, I was eager to explore the new content and challenge myself to defeat the new final boss on my first attempt.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to face the final boss yet. Although I did reach the new region introduced in the update, I was swiftly defeated by a formidable miniboss. Nevertheless, I continue to be impressed by the continuous improvements made by Supergiant Games since the game’s initial release in May.
The significant additions to the game are indeed remarkable. Initially launching with six regions, the game now boasts additional regions, enemies, characters, and music with each major update. The first update in October introduced Mount Olympus, a grand and epic region featuring stunning architecture, challenging foes, and a fiery boss battle against Prometheus, accompanied by a magnificent orchestral soundtrack.
Furthermore, the second major update introduced a new region and boss, along with numerous smaller yet impactful details. For instance, the Altar of Ashes underwent a visual redesign, presenting intricately-illustrated custom cards for passive effects in the form of arcana cards. Additionally, various mechanics and details have been rebalanced and modified, showcasing Supergiant’s commitment to enhancing the gameplay experience.
Despite the uncertainty of when Hades II will reach its 1.0 version, the continuous updates and community feedback integration demonstrate Supergiant’s dedication to delivering a polished and engaging game. As a fan of Supergiant’s previous titles like Bastion and Transistor, I have no reservations recommending Hades II to anyone interested in experiencing how a fantastic game can evolve and improve over time.
