If you’ve noticed a change in the look of your Google TV homescreen, you’re not imagining things.
Starting last week, Google has been rolling out a new redesign to users. This week, owners of devices from brands like TCL and Walmart Onn have begun seeing the update. This marks one of the most significant changes to the homepage since the OS rebranded in 2020.
The main focus of the redesign is the top navigation bar. Users have expressed dissatisfaction with the removal of the Library tab, which used to provide quick access to downloaded films and TV shows. Now, users need to click on their profile picture on the left side of the screen to access a drop-down menu with options like Library, Watchlist, Your Services, and Content Services.
In the updated top menu, the For You tab has been renamed to Home and is joined by Live and Apps tabs. Settings and Screensaver options are now grouped in a separate box.
For a visual comparison, the new redesign can be seen in the screenshot below, showcasing the Gemini AI features on the TV OS:
For comparison, here’s how the old homepage looked, featuring the Library tab. In the US, the Live tab was also part of this bar previously.

These changes are currently being rolled out in the US, with no updates yet for other countries. On Tech Advisor’s Google TV Streamer unit in the UK, the old layout remains even after an update.
Since Google hasn’t officially announced this new layout beyond its appearance in advertisements, there may still be adjustments and refinements in the coming weeks.
