Google revamps its Play Store with AI features and more

Google Updates Play Store to Enhance User Experience

Google announced a series of changes to the Play Store, aimed at personalizing the experience for users and boosting engagement. The updates include a revamped Apps tab, a new Play Games interface, a tab focusing on user interests, and features powered by Gemini AI.

The changes build upon recent additions to make the Play Store a more immersive platform. This includes tabs showcasing favorite shows and organizing apps and games into themed Collections, according to Google Play Games VP Aurash Mahbood.

Google aims to make the Play Store a gateway for its 4 billion users to discover apps, games, media, and cultural content that align with their interests and needs.

AI Search and Apps Tab Redesign

A new Guided Search feature allows users to find apps based on goals or ideas, rather than specific names. The Apps tab now includes curated spaces for seasonal topics and user interests, such as content related to the WNBA in the U.S.

Additionally, curated spaces have been introduced in India and Japan, focusing on regional interests like cricket and comics. Korean users will now have a curated space for video content, including movies, TV shows, and short-form videos.

Personalized Home with the You Tab

The new You tab offers a central hub for tracking subscriptions, rewards, recommendations, and updates. It provides personalized content recommendations and easy access to previously accessed media.

Gamers will find their profiles in this tab, showcasing stats and achievements across games and devices, along with customizable Gen AI avatars.

New Games Tab and AI Sidekick

The updated Games tab consolidates stats, achievements, rewards, and community features. Play Games Leagues allow users to compete for rewards, starting with a league dedicated to Subway Surfers.

A new AI-enabled Play Games Sidekick provides real-time gaming assistance from Gemini Live, offering tips and guidance within games. The feature aims to enhance the gaming experience without leaving the game.

Enhanced Game Detail Pages will showcase ongoing events, developer updates, and offers. Gamers can also interact with each other to provide or seek help.

Google also announced the exit of Google Play Games on PC beta, offering over 200,000 titles for Windows users.
