If you have a hankering to revisit the original 90s version of the game that started the Resident Evil series with its unforgettable live-action intro straight out of the decade of Aqua’s Barbie Girl and prime Michael Jordan, then you’re in for a treat.

The PC port of the original Resident Evil from 1996, a title that has been elusive in terms of accessibility on modern PCs due to its absence from platforms like Steam, has now made a comeback thanks to Capcom and a specialized retro games storefront.

You can now purchase the original PC version of Resident Evil on GOG.com for £8.99 / $9.99. The game has been updated to ensure compatibility with Windows 10 and 11, while still preserving the classic experience without drastic alterations.

The updates include new rendering options, improved cutscene timing, and full support for modern controllers such as PlayStation and Xbox devices, catering to players who prefer gamepads over mouse and keyboard.

In addition, GOG.com will offer the original PC versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3 by the end of 2024, with a bundle including all three titles available for pre-purchase at £20.99 / $24.99.

If you breeze through the first Resident Evil, GOG.com has uploaded its iconic live-action intro on YouTube for your viewing pleasure until the sequels arrive. The video is just under four minutes long, allowing for multiple viewings in a short span of time.
