Gmail will now help you write an email on the web with AI

Google is introducing the “Help me write” feature to Gmail on the web, enabling users to effortlessly compose or edit emails using Gemini AI. Similar to the mobile version, users will receive a suggestion to utilize this feature when they start a new email draft in Gmail.

To access the “Help me write” tool, users must be subscribed to Google One AI Premium or have the Gemini add-on for Workspace. Apart from generating email drafts, this feature can offer recommendations on how to formalize, elaborate on, or shorten a message.

Furthermore, Google is implementing a shortcut for the “polish” option within the “Help me write” toolset, which will be visible on drafts containing more than 12 words. In Gmail on the web, users can simply click the shortcut or use the shortcut Ctrl + H to promptly refine an email.

On mobile devices, the “Refine my draft” shortcut will be replaced by the “polish” option. Instead of swiping to access options for refining, formalizing, elaborating, or shortening an email, the app will automatically refine the message when the “polish” shortcut is triggered. Users can then further customize the message using Google’s other AI editing tools.

Google plans to gradually introduce the “Help me write” feature on the web, along with the new “polish” shortcut, starting today.
