Former Suikoden and Romancing Saga devs release fairytale RPG Stray Children, with a plea to never spoil the ending

Onion Games Releases Stray Children: A Bittersweet Fairytale RPG

Onion Games recently unveiled the English version of Stray Children, described as a “bittersweet, fairytale RPG” that caught my attention after Oisin’s review in June. Created by the same developers behind Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, Stray Children immerses players in a world where children are pitted against monstrous adults. The kids seek refuge in a stronghold, while the adults, known as Olders, wander the landscapes burdened by their insecurities and grievances.

The game’s eerie and whimsical aesthetic features treehouses, submarines, and unique abilities like the Icicle Bullets of Love. While the premise may not be suitable for all audiences, the gameplay mechanics offer a refreshing twist. In Stray Children, players can engage with opponents through dialogue, uncovering vulnerabilities to progress through the game. The battle system combines turn-based combat with shmup elements, requiring players to dodge metaphorical attacks.

Yoshiro Kimura, the mastermind behind Stray Children, brings experience from projects like Romancing SaGa 2 and Rule of Rose. The Tokyo-based studio boasts a talented team, including art director Kurashima Kazuyuki and composer Hirofumi Taniguchi, known for their work on iconic RPGs.

While comparisons to Undertale and Moon: Remix RPG Adventure may arise, Stray Children offers a unique experience that stands on its own. The Steam page teases players with the promise of discovering hidden secrets and saving souls through heartfelt interactions.

As the game gains traction, early reviews hint at a captivating journey awaiting players. While the specifics remain a mystery, the plea to keep the ending under wraps adds an air of intrigue to the narrative. Stray Children invites players to explore a world filled with mysteries and unexpected twists, promising an unforgettable adventure.
