Euphoria season 3 at a glance:
- The third season is currently in production
- There will be a time jump
- Several actors won’t return
After months of speculation and rumours, HBO has finally announced the approximate release date for the third season of Euphoria and revealed its full cast.
Euphoria is one of HBO’s most popular and best-rated series, yet the development of season 3 has been a bumpy path. First, the production was delayed by the actors’ and screenwriters’ strikes, and then it turned out that Sam Levinson needed more time to work on the script than initially anticipated. The popularity of the stars also became a problem, as they found it increasingly difficult to find time to appear in the HBO production.
After a wild season 2 finale, fans are eagerly anticipating the new episodes of Euphoria. We’ve gathered all the news about this outstanding HBO teen drama.
Euphoria season 3 potential release date
Work on the set of season 3 is on. According to the latest information provided by HBO, Euphoria will return in spring 2026.
Production is seemingly delayed, as filming was set to start in January 2025. Francesca Orsi, the EVP and Head of Drama, HBO Programming for Home Box Office, said in July 2024:
I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on ‘Euphoria’ in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.
HBO originally announced that Euphoria would return to Max in 2025.
In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Sydney Sweeney revealed that she would soon be working on the set of Euphoria.
However, it was later announced that the script for the new episodes wasn’t ready, and there was no confirmed date for when it would be completed, as the cast had been permitted to work on other projects.
Euphoria season 3 plot
Spoilers for Euphoria season 2 below.
The second season of Euphoria was full of drama and ended on a typically sour note.
Cassie and Nate’s romance led to a tumultuous end to Cassie’s friendship with Maddy. Nate himself reported his father, Cal, to the police, and Cal was arrested for possession of explicit material of a juvenile.
The highlight of the season was a school play prepared by Lexi, inspired by the lives of her and her classmates. However, the hilarious performance had unforeseen consequences. A furious Nate broke up with Cassie, who then climbed onto the stage and was assaulted by a vengeful Maddy.
Unfortunately, Fez, who became friends with Lexi during the season, didn’t make it to the show. Just as he was leaving, the dealer and his brother Ashtray got into a shoot-out with the police. As a result, Fez was wounded, and Ash was killed.
The only positive element of the season’s ending was Rue’s reconciliation with Jules and Elliot after her dramatic drug crisis.

If you hope to find out in season 3 what happened right after the messy school play, you may be surprised. According to costume designer Heidi Bivens, there will be a time jump between seasons as much as 5 years into the future. This means that the next time we see Rue and her schoolmates, they will be young adults.
When asked about season 3, Sam Levinson revealed to Elle he wanted to use the convention of film noir to “tell the story of Rue, who explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world”.

Sadly, Angus Cloud won’t return in Euphoria season 3 to play fan-favourite Fezco. In July 2023, the actor passed away due to a drug overdose. It’s yet unclear how the show creators are going to explain Fez’s absence in the upcoming season.
In the new episodes, we probably won’t see Javon Walton as Ashtray. Fez’s bizarre brother was most likely killed during the Scarface-like shoot-out with the police.
In 2022, Barbie Ferreira, who starred as Kat Hernandez, announced that she was leaving the series.
Storm Reid, who played Gia, won’t appear in the third instalment of the series. As the actress said in her interview for Rotten Tomatoes, Rue’s younger sister isn’t a part of the season 3 script.
Natasha Lyonne, best-known from Orange Is the New Black, Russian Doll and Poker Face has joined the cast for the season. Trisha Paytas, an American media personality, will also appear in Euphoria season 3. Other additions to the cast include Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard, I Saw the TV Glow) and Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds, Idol).
