Epic says Fortnite is coming back to iOS in the US

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced on X that following a court order preventing Apple from taking a commission on external App Store purchases, the company plans to reintroduce Fortnite to iOS in the US “next week.”

Since August 2020, the app has been unavailable on iOS in the US after Apple removed it from the App Store for using Epic’s own in-app payment system against Apple’s guidelines. This led to a legal battle between Apple and Epic, with a recent ruling favoring Apple in 2021, but today’s ruling is a significant win for Epic.

In addition, Sweeney proposed a “peace offering” from Epic to Apple on X. He stated, “If Apple adopts the court’s commission-free framework globally, we will bring back Fortnite to the App Store worldwide and cease all current and future legal actions on this matter.”

Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment.
