Upon reading the feedback on yesterday’s impressions of Endless Legend 2 early access, I find myself worried that I might be one of those “positive outliers” mentioned in the Gamer Witchfinder Almanac. It seems that many of you were not impressed by the recent Steam demo. If you are curious about the changes made by Amplitude in response to the demo feedback, continue reading for more details.
According to a new Steam post, Amplitude believes that players enjoyed the Tidefall mechanic, which reveals extra playable terrain as the ocean retreats periodically, and the regular Monsoons that sweep the land. They have adjusted the quantity of Monsoons and Tidefalls based on feedback, as there were originally too many smaller Tidefalls in each game.
The asymmetrical faction design, art, and sound elements, including map design, characters, and unique jingles, were also well-received by players. However, the negative feedback primarily focused on the user interface, with many reviews mentioning UI issues. Amplitude acknowledges the need for significant changes to improve the UI and address bugs and information display issues.
Specifically, they are working on making city screens more user-friendly and intuitive, addressing concerns related to adjacency, district leveling, population management, and decision-making. Changes to Districts are also being considered to enhance gameplay experience.
In my updated impressions, I have not encountered major UI problems in the early access build. However, some aspects like city center visibility and unit identification could be improved. Amplitude has taken steps to make city foundations clearer and enhance graphics options to address player concerns.
The colorful world of Endless Legend 2 has been adjusted to reduce hallucinogenic effects and improve clarity. Changes include making hexagonal grid lines more prominent and refining terrain saturation levels for better visibility. Overall, Amplitude aims to balance a detailed world with clear gameplay information.
In terms of character writing, Amplitude has expanded the dialogue in Endless Legend 2 but is focusing on quality over quantity for Early Access. Issues with character dialogue presentation and consistency are being addressed to enhance the overall narrative experience.
Endless Legend 2 is set to launch in early access on September 22nd with five factions, with plans to add more content before the full release next year. Despite any shortcomings, I hope you give the game a chance before passing judgment.
