QuakeCon 2024 Unveils New Doom + Doom II Remaster
QuakeCon 2024 has brought exciting news for fans of the classic first-person shooters Doom and Doom II. The event saw the announcement and release of a new remaster that combines both games into one package, titled Doom + Doom II. This remaster also includes a brand new episode called Legacy of Rust, which was created in collaboration by individuals from id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames.
The newly remastered Doom + Doom II is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It is also included in Game Pass for easy access. Owners of the original Doom or Doom II can upgrade to this new version for free, and still retain access to their previously owned versions of the games.
Developed by Nightdive Studios using their powerful cross-platform KEX Engine, this remaster features enhanced graphics with resolutions up to 4K and 120fps, depending on the platform. It also introduces new accessibility options and supports cross-platform Deathmatch and co-op play for up to 16 players. Additionally, the remaster includes a new Deathmatch map pack with 25 new maps, adding to the existing collection.
The comprehensive collection of Doom content in this remaster includes Doom, Doom II, Master Levels for Doom II, TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, No Rest for the Living, Sigil, Legacy of Rust, and the new Deathmatch map pack. Community creations have also been included in the map pack, showcasing the talent of various modders.
With the release of this remaster, fans can enjoy an improved gaming experience without the limitations that were present in the previous versions. The remaster aims to provide a seamless and enjoyable gameplay experience for both new players and long-time fans of the series.
Aside from the Doom remaster, QuakeCon 2024 also revealed that Doom Eternal now has official mod tools available via a PC mod beta. This announcement is sure to excite fans as they await the release of Doom: The Dark Ages.
