Doom and Doom II get a ‘definitive’ re-release that’s packed with upgrades

If you’re a fan of classic games like Doom and Doom II, Bethesda has a treat for you. They have released a new re-release that combines both games into one package called Doom + Doom II. This update is free for anyone who already owns Doom (1993) or Doom II.

The re-release comes with a range of exciting new features, including a brand new single-player episode and online cross-platform deathmatch multiplayer. With Doom + Doom II, players will also have access to extra single-player content like John Romero’s Sigil episode and Legacy of Rust, a new episode created by individuals from id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames.

Multiplayer enthusiasts will be pleased to know that Bethesda has added 25 new maps for deathmatch, bringing the total to 43. The cross-platform deathmatch and co-op modes support up to 16 players.

For those playing on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox Series X / S, the combined package supports up to 4K resolution and 120fps. Additionally, there is updated music by Andrew Hulshult, who worked on the music for Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods DLC. Players can switch between the new tracks and the original tracks at their convenience.

There are many more features and updates included in this package, so be sure to check out the extensive patch notes for more information. Doom + Doom II is available on various platforms including PC (Steam, Windows Store, Epic Games Store, GOG), Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

In other retro Doom news, Limited Run Games is planning to re-release Doom on the SNES in 2025. Only 666 copies will be made, so be sure to keep an eye out for this limited edition release.
