Don’t worry about The Division, Ubisoft say as series executive producer jumps to Battlefield amid layoffs

Julian Gerighty Leaves Massive Entertainment for Battlefield at EA

After 12 years at Massive Entertainment, Julian Gerighty has announced his departure to work on Battlefield at EA. This news comes shortly after Ubisoft revealed plans to lay off staff at Massive, despite a voluntary redundancy process last year.

Ubisoft has reassured fans that The Division series is still in good hands following Gerighty’s exit.

“While we’ll miss him, his mark will live on at Massive and we’ll continue to bring the world he’s been part of creating to our players for years to come,” Ubisoft stated. “For our players, don’t worry, Agents. Our teams who built this world with Julian are still here, carrying it forward with an ambitious, unchanged commitment for the future with The Division 2, The Division 2: Survivors, The Division Resurgence and The Division 3.”

“It’s time for me to hang up my go bag (keeping the watch) as I go on another grand adventure,” Gerighty shared in his departure tweet. “The Division future burns bright, and I can’t wait for you to discover what the teams have been working on.”

According to Ubisoft, Yannick Banchereau and Mathias Karlson remain creative directors on The Division 2 and The Division 3 respectively, with Magnus Jansen leading The Division 2’s extraction mode Survivors.

The Division 3, announced in 2023, has been relatively quiet until Gerighty teased its impact at the New Game+ Showcase.

Speculation arose at a recent Ubisoft esports event in Japan about a possible definitive edition of the first Division game, but no official announcement has been made yet.
