DOGE reportedly planning a hackathon to build ‘mega API’ for IRS data

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to Host Hackathon for “Mega API” Development

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is gearing up to host a hackathon next week with a focus on creating a groundbreaking “mega API” that will grant access to taxpayer data, as reported by Wired.

The hackathon is said to be spearheaded by two DOGE staffers from the Internal Revenue Service, Gavin Kliger and Sam Corcos, who also serves as the CEO of healthtech startup Levels. Corcos has expressed his ambition to construct “one new API to rule them all” within the DOGE framework.

If successful, this mega API would streamline cloud providers’ access to IRS data, encompassing taxpayer information such as names, addresses, social security numbers, tax returns, and employment details, all of which could be seamlessly integrated into external systems. Wired mentions the involvement of a third-party vendor in managing certain aspects of the project, with Palantir frequently cited as a potential candidate.

An anonymous IRS employee raised concerns to Wired, stating, “It’s essentially an unlocked gateway overseen by Musk for the most sensitive information of all Americans, devoid of the usual security protocols that safeguard such data.”
