Delta Force's free Black Hawk Down shooter campaign mode is out now

Team Jade and TiMi Studio Group have recently launched a new co-op campaign for their multiplayer shooter Delta Force, which was released in 2024. This marks the first new Delta Force game since 2004. The campaign, inspired by the movie Black Hawk Down directed by Ridley Scott, is now available for free download. It is designed for a squad of four players, but solo play is also an option for those seeking a challenge. Currently, the campaign only supports mouse and keyboard, but controller support will be added in a future update.

The Black Hawk Down movie, released in 2001, is based on Mark Bowden’s book about the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia. This battle pitted Somali National Alliance forces against United States troops who were part of a United Nations intervention during the Somali Civil War.

The game’s campaign consists of seven chapters, starting with a mission to capture SNA lieutenants and progressing to the rescue of downed helicopter crews. The development of the campaign involved input from Revolution Studio, one of the movie’s production companies.

This is not the first time the Delta Force franchise has explored the events of Black Hawk Down. The 2003 game Delta Force: Black Hawk Down drew inspiration directly from Bowden’s book, bypassing Ridley Scott’s interpretation. The Battle of Mogadishu remains a significant event in American history, with various books and films commemorating and revisiting it from different perspectives. In 2013, parts of the crashed US helicopters were recovered and displayed in a museum. Now, a team from China is adapting this story into a video game.

The Somali Civil War, which started in the 1990s, continues to impact the region. In a recent BBC article tied to a new Netflix documentary, Somali individuals recount the devastation caused by US military actions, including the storming and bombing of their homes. Many survivors are still seeking reparations for the harm they suffered.
