Couples afraid of being third-wheeled rejoice, FromSoftware might add in a duos option to Elden Ring Nightreign

One of the main reasons I’m hesitant to jump into Elden Ring Nightreign right at launch is the absence of a duo option. I usually prefer single-player games, but when I do play online, I prefer to do so with my partner only. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way; I mean, who wants a random player intruding on their gaming experience? Luckily, FromSoftware seems to be considering adding a two-player mode to their upcoming Soulslike game.

Game director Junya Ishizaki recently discussed his experiences working under Elden Ring’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview with IGN. While the interview covers various topics, Ishizaki’s comments on the lack of a two-player option caught our attention. When asked about this omission, Ishizaki admitted that it was simply overlooked during development. He apologized for this oversight, emphasizing that the game was designed with a focus on multiplayer co-op for three players. However, he acknowledged the importance of solo play and mentioned that they are considering adding a duos mode in a future update.

Ishizaki explained that the team dedicated significant effort to ensure a great experience for solo players, but in doing so, they unintentionally neglected the duo aspect. Nevertheless, he reassured players that they are looking into introducing a duos mode post-launch. This news is promising for players like me who prefer playing with just one other person. Let’s hope the update arrives before that Elden Ring movie that’s reportedly in development.

The possibility of a duos mode being added in the future is enough to keep me interested! Fingers crossed for a timely release of this update.
