James Corden and Ruth Jones have inked a lucrative deal with Apple TV+ for a revival of the beloved British sitcom Gavin and Stacey. The original series aired on the BBC from 2007 to 2010, with Christmas specials in 2019 and 2024, becoming one of the most successful British comedies.

The show’s creators, James Corden and Ruth Jones, have decided to bring the project to Apple TV+ with a reported deal worth around 8 million pounds ($10.8 million), according to sources from the Sun.

Despite interest from BBC, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, Apple TV+ secured the rights, likely due to Corden’s existing relationship with the platform through Carpool Karaoke.

The upcoming ten-episode series will be filmed in the UK and feature an all-British cast. While it is a follow-up to “Gavin and Stacey,” the new show will introduce new characters to cater to international viewers who may not be familiar with the original.

While Corden and Jones will oversee the project, it remains unconfirmed whether they will reprise their roles as “Smithy” and “Nessa” from the BBC series.

Currently, James Corden is performing in the Broadway play Art, while Ruth Jones is set to star in the Netflix thriller Run Away.

An insider shared, “In what has unquestionably been a pretty miserable year for Brits, there is finally something to cheer — a new James and Ruth co-production. As you might expect, it is uplifting, gentle and very funny. They wanted to bring something full of heart and warmth back to screens; water cooler moments for all the family.”

For those unfamiliar with the show, Gavin and Stacey focused on two families from Essex and Vale of Glamorgan. The series followed the relationship milestones of Gavin and Stacey, portrayed by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, along with their quirky friends and family members.

The show depicted the ups and downs of the couple’s journey, including their initial meeting, family introductions, engagement, marriage, home-searching, career challenges, and parenthood aspirations.
