Play, Die, Mutate: Two developers dedicated an extensive amount of time to create a challenging roguelike game called Caves of Qud. After 17 years of hard work, Freehold Games is finally ready to launch version 1.0, catering to both new and old PC users.
Caves of Qud draws inspiration from Dwarf Fortress and other richly detailed worlds, combining quest-based gameplay with procedurally generated content. The game’s Steam page describes it as a science fantasy epic with elements of retrofuturism, deep simulation, and unique flora. Players can choose from over 70 mutations and defects to customize their character in a world filled with ancient civilizations and challenging gameplay.
The game features a unique digging mechanic that allows players to overcome obstacles by burrowing through walls or using special abilities. With a focus on permanent death and challenging gameplay, Caves of Qud offers a truly immersive and unforgiving experience for players.
Version 1.0 of Caves of Qud introduces significant enhancements, including the completion of the main quest, multiple endings, new music and sound effects, and a polished user interface. Additionally, there is a Dromad Deluxe Edition available with extra content and future DLCs for dedicated players.
To help new players navigate the world of Caves of Qud, Freehold Games collaborated with SBPlaysGames to create a beginner-friendly tutorial. This ensures that players won’t feel overwhelmed by the game’s complexity and can enjoy the experience without frustration.
