Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin Announce Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse
Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin have joined forces to announce the upcoming release of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a brand new 2D side-scrolling metroidvania game set to launch this year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
Taking place over two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Belmont’s Curse transports players to 15th-century Paris. Players will assume the role of Trevor Belmont’s successor as they venture into the city to combat monstrous creatures and explore a mystical castle threatening to plunge Paris into eternal darkness.
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Castlevania series, the announcement of a new 2D game helmed by renowned developers has been met with excitement. Motion Twin, the original studio behind Dead Cells, is providing advisory support, while Evil Empire, their successor studio, is leading development in collaboration with Konami on Belmont’s Curse. Evil Empire, established in 2019 to continue supporting Dead Cells, recently released The Rogue Prince of Persia as a roguelite, following the conclusion of Dead Cells’ DLC in 2023.
Having previously worked on the Return to Castlevania expansion for Dead Cells in 2023, Evil Empire’s familiarity with the Castlevania universe has set the stage for a promising collaboration. Unlike their previous roguelite projects, Belmont’s Curse is described as a “2D Action-Exploration” game, hinting at a more traditional metroidvania experience. With anticipation building, this title is definitely one to watch.
