Bungie confirms a new Marathon release window, game changes and price

Bungie Announces New Release Window and Changes for Marathon

Bungie has recently unveiled a new ViDoc for their highly anticipated extraction shooter Marathon, revealing exciting updates for the game. The release date has been set for March 2026, with availability on PS5 and PC at a price of $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99.

Following a delay earlier this year, Bungie has been diligently working on refining Marathon based on private playtesting and player feedback. Some of the key changes made to the game include:

  • Introduction of proximity chat feature
  • Introduction of Rook, a new solo scavenger character type
  • Implementation of Solo Runner queue
  • Enhancements to visual fidelity throughout the game

These updates are crucial for Marathon’s success, particularly in light of the positive reception of Arc Raiders. The addition of proximity chat allows for spontaneous collaboration among players, while the Solo Runner queue caters to diverse playstyles. The new Rook character type is tailored for joining ongoing matches with limited gear but increased scavenging potential.

Furthermore, visual improvements such as persistent dead runner bodies in the game world add a darker element to Marathon’s sci-fi aesthetics.

While these enhancements are promising, Bungie faces the challenge of overcoming the shadow cast by previous setbacks, including a troubled announcement earlier this year. The company has been navigating challenges with Destiny 2, including layoffs and mixed reactions to recent expansions. Nevertheless, Bungie remains committed to delivering a captivating experience for players.
