Bug in macOS and iOS updates re-enables Apple Intelligence for some refuseniks

Apple Intelligence, an optional feature that some users had opted out of, is being re-enabled for some after the latest macOS and iOS updates. Developer Jeff Johnson and security researcher Will Dormann both experienced this issue.

Johnson reported that after updating to macOS 15.3.1, Apple Intelligence was re-enabled on his MacBook Pro but not on his Mac mini. Dormann also encountered the issue on iOS devices.

To disable Apple Intelligence if it has been re-enabled for you, go to System Settings on Mac or Settings on iPhone, find the Apple Intelligence & Siri section, and toggle Apple Intelligence off.

It is expected that this bug will be addressed in upcoming updates.

How to disable Apple Intelligence

If this has happened to you, you can of course easily disable it.

On Mac, go to  > System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and flip the Apple Intelligence toggle to off.

On iPhone, open the Settings app then Apple Intelligence & Siri and flip the Apple Intelligence toggle to off.

We’d expect the issue to be resolved in the next updates.
