Blue Protocol's western release has been cancelled and its Japanese servers will shut down early next year

Blue Protocol, an anime MMO developed by Bandai Namco, was released in Japan last year with plans to launch in the west through Amazon Games. Unfortunately, those plans have been cancelled, and the game will also be shutting down in Japan early next year.

Bandai Namco Online announced the decision to end service on Blue Protocol, with the Japanese servers scheduled to close on January 18th, 2025. The game has already been removed from Steam.

Blue Protocol appeared to be similar to Genshin Impact, featuring a vibrant world and action-RPG combat. However, reviews were mixed, with concerns about predictability and microtransactions.

Players who have spent real money on in-game currency will not receive refunds, but they will receive 5000 free Rose Orbs monthly until the shutdown for cosmetic purchases. It’s a disappointing situation for players who were invested in the game.

Despite the closure, there are still plans for new content in the Japanese version leading up to the shutdown.
