Last year, I had the pleasure of playing Withering Rooms, a spooky haunted house action-RPG that combines intricate Metroidvania level design with the ability to transform into a giant witch riding magical armor. It reminded me of Bloodborne, but with a charming indie twist.
The sequel, Withering Realms, has been recently announced, featuring a ghost girl who controls a customizable combat doll. This concept may remind some of the popular Soulslike game Lies Of P. Sir Eugene Optimisation drew parallels to Soulslike games, but I couldn’t help but notice the eerie resemblance to Mouthwashing in the doll’s design. Watch the trailer for a glimpse of the gameplay.

Unlike its predecessor, Withering Realms expands the gameplay beyond a single house to explore the town of Penwyll and its surrounding areas, where the dead walk and spirits roam due to an occult event during World War I. Players can expect combat in a full 3D environment and encounter new challenges and creatures at night.
The protagonist, Clover, interacts with the world through the combat doll, equipped with various weapons like a “pivoting greatsword” and a “chain rock.” She is aided by Althea, a freelance investigator who can see her. The game promises engaging overworld mechanics, such as defeating perimeter guardians to expand the world map.
Withering Realms is set to release in Q4 2025, offering a continuation of the thrilling gameplay from its predecessor. Explore more details on Steam and get ready for an exciting adventure in a supernatural world.
