As anticipated by many fans, Splatoon 3’s Grand Festival marked the end of its final Splatfest, signaling the conclusion of regular updates for the game.
The recent Grand Festival in Splatoon 3, which was heavily implied to be the culmination of the last two years of Splatfests, has now led to the official announcement on the North America Splatoon Twitter confirming the wrapping up of regular updates. However, this does not mean that support for the game will cease. The tweet stated, “After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close.” It also mentioned that events like Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes, while updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Additionally, Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being.
The final Splatfest was centered around the themes of Past, Present, and Future, with the representatives being Callie and Marie for Past, Pearl and Marina for Present, and Deep Cut for Future. Future ended up with zero points, placing it at the bottom. Present came in second with 370 points, while Past took the lead with 500 points. It’s worth noting that the outcomes of the final Splatfests in the previous games had an impact on the subsequent games’ stories. Therefore, if Splatoon 4 is in development, it will be intriguing to see how the victory of Past influences it.
The Japanese Nintendo channel also released an adorable video showcasing the Grand Festival, along with various artworks released during Splatfest over the past few years and their respective winners. The themes occasionally differed between Japan and the West.
With Splatoon 3 now concluded, it may be some time before a new installment is released, especially considering the shared development team with Animal Crossing. With the potential announcement of a Switch 2 on the horizon, it seems like the ideal platform for the next Splatoon game.
