Aptoide iOS game store launches this week; wait list of 20,000

An exciting new development in the app store world is the upcoming launch of the Aptoide iOS game store in Europe on Thursday. This marks the third third-party app store to be announced, following Setapp and AltStore.

All three companies are seizing the opportunity presented by Apple’s changes in the EU under the Digital Markets Act, which now allow for competition within the App Store.

Aptoide, known for its success as the third-largest Android app store, is aiming to replicate that success on the iOS platform with a focus on games. The launch is set for 10am GMT on June 6, with a countdown timer currently in place.

Interested users should note that there is a waitlist of 20,000 people, with a limited number of daily installations initially. The company plans to start with seven games and expand to 30, with over 100 iOS developers showing interest in the platform.

One key differentiator for Aptoide is its approach to Apple’s fee structure, offering an Apple-approved in-app purchases (IAP) solution for developers. This will be supported through fees charged to developers rather than passing costs directly to users.

Connecting with Setapp and AltStore

Setapp Mobile from MacPaw recently launched as an invitation-only beta, with plans to expand its app offerings before a public release. AltStore began rolling out in April, facing challenges in installation due to Apple’s restrictions on third-party app stores.

With Aptoide leading the way in Europe, it’s likely that more alternative app stores will emerge in the future.
