Apple’s chip chief might be the next exec to leave

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior VP of hardware technologies, has informed Tim Cook of his contemplation to leave the company for another opportunity. This news comes after previous reports in October that Srouji was reassessing his future at Apple. While no final decision has been made, it appears that Srouji is leaning towards departing from Cupertino.

If Srouji does decide to leave, he would join a series of notable changes in Apple’s executive team. COO Jeff Williams announced his retirement earlier this year, leading to some reshuffling of positions. December has seen a flurry of departures, including AI chief John Giannandrea, policy lead Lisa Jackson, and general counsel Kate Adams all announcing their plans to retire, and UI design lead Alan Dye moving on to Meta.

Apple has faced challenges in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, adding pressure on Tim Cook to navigate these transitions while also addressing rumors of his potential departure. Gurman has dismissed these rumors as premature, but they contribute to the uncertainty surrounding a company known for its stability in Silicon Valley.
