Apple Releases Critical Security Update
Apple issued a crucial security update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices on Monday to address a known vulnerability. However, the update unintentionally caused issues with the loading of certain websites.
This development, while preferable to a security breach, presents challenges for users relying on the current operating system version.
The Rapid Security Response updates are intended to seamlessly integrate without affecting device firmware. Nonetheless, there seems to be no automated rollback feature available.
Apple has acknowledged the problem and assured users that a new patch is in the works.
Apple is aware of an issue where the Rapid Security Response update may disrupt the display of some websites. The forthcoming Rapid Security Response iOS 16.5.1 (b) and iPadOS 16.5.1 (b) updates will resolve this issue.
In a support document, Apple offers guidance on reverting the Rapid Security Response update on iPhone and iPad:
To remove Rapid Security Response (a): Go to Settings > About > iOS Version, tap “Remove Security Response,” then confirm by tapping Remove.
A similar update is expected for macOS Ventura:
Apple is aware of an issue where the Rapid Security Response update may disrupt the display of some websites. The upcoming Rapid Security Response macOS 13.4.1 (b) update will address this issue.
To remove Rapid Security Response (a): Navigate to the Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info. Under macOS, click the Info (i) button next to the version number. Click Remove and Restart, then confirm the action.
