Apple has introduced a new partnership with Universal Music Group to launch a new audio wellness initiative on Apple Music, alongside a range of new accessibility features for iOS 19 and beyond.

Named Sound Therapy, this collaboration goes beyond just offering soothing mood music. Apple and UMG are working together to transform popular hits from global superstars into an innovative audio wellness collection. This collection aims to help listeners achieve clearer focus, deeper relaxation, and better sleep.

Sound Therapy consists of extended, instrumental, and reimagined versions of popular tracks from artists like Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, and more, providing a premium listening experience.

The collaboration with Sollos, a team of producers, scientists, and audio engineers from UMG’s London offices, aims to blend songs with scientifically researched sound waves to help listeners relax or focus.

“Given Apple’s leadership at the intersection of health and technology, the launch of Sound Therapy represents an important validation of our innovative, science-led Sollos initiative. We look forward to working closely with the team at Apple to expand the ways that music can be harnessed to improve the wellness benefits for its users.”

– Michael Nash, UMG’s executive vice president and chief digital officer

Sound Therapy includes three categories – Focus, Relax, and Sleep, each with curated playlists on Apple Music to cater to different wellness needs. These playlists combine popular songs with specialized sound waves to enhance the listening experience.

  1. Focus: Utilizes gamma auditory beats and white noise to improve concentration and mask distracting sounds.
  2. Relax: Uses theta auditory beats to help listeners unwind and relax.
  3. Sleep: Incorporates delta auditory beats or pink noise with natural sounds to encourage deeper sleep.

To maximize the benefits, Apple recommends listening to these playlists for at least 20 minutes in a quiet environment or with headphones. While the playlists blend popular songs with sound waves, specific artists or hits are not named to create a seamless listening experience.

“Apple has long been committed to enabling its customers to lead healthier, more active lives through offerings like Apple Watch, HealthKit, and Apple Fitness+. The company will work closely with Sollos and UMG to further establish scientific evidence supporting music and audio for improved wellbeing, and finding inclusive ways to bring these benefits to people around the world.”
