Introducing the Ryzen 5 9600X3D: AMD’s Latest Mid-Range CPU

Exciting News: AMD is gearing up to expand its mid-range CPU lineup with the Ryzen 5 9600X3D, a chip set to introduce 3D V-Cache technology to a wider audience of gamers and PC enthusiasts. This new processor was not officially announced but was discovered in a support list for AMD’s recently released Radeon AI R9700 graphics card, alongside other unreleased models.

This leak has sparked rumors that AMD is aiming to solidify its position in the competitive mid-range market, where it faces tough competition from Intel’s Core i5-14600K and Core Ultra 5 245K. Just days ago, reports surfaced about Intel’s Core Ultra 7 265KF receiving a significant price drop to $229, marking a 40% decrease from its launch price less than a year ago.

The Ryzen 5 9600X3D is expected to boast 6 cores and 12 threads, built on AMD’s Zen 5 microarchitecture and “Granite Ridge” silicon. The standout feature of this chip is the inclusion of second-gen 3D V-Cache, adding an extra 64 MB of cache on top of the standard 32 MB on-die cache, resulting in a total of 96 MB of L3 cache.

Anticipated clock speeds for the Ryzen 5 9600X3D are likely to be on par with the standard Ryzen 5 9600X, with boost frequencies potentially reaching up to 5.4 GHz. The processor is expected to maintain a 65-watt TDP, offering a balance between performance and energy efficiency that will appeal to users looking for a powerful yet cost-effective upgrade. Additionally, the 9600X3D will support DDR5-5600 memory and be compatible with AMD’s AM5 socket, ensuring seamless integration with the latest motherboards and platforms.


With its six-core configuration, the Ryzen 5 9600X3D aims to provide a more affordable option compared to higher-end X3D models like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which offer more cores at a higher price point.

This approach aligns with AMD’s previous release strategy with the limited Ryzen 5 7600X3D. However, the increasing trend of modern games recommending or requiring 8-core CPUs raises questions about the long-term suitability of 6-core chips for upcoming gaming titles.

Nevertheless, AMD’s V-Cache technology offers a unique advantage in cache-sensitive scenarios, potentially compensating for the lower core count in many current games.

Industry experts anticipate that the Ryzen 5 9600X3D will initially debut in pre-built systems from major manufacturers, with retail availability for DIY enthusiasts expected later in the year, possibly around the holiday season.

While pricing details are yet to be confirmed, the chip is predicted to be priced lower than the higher-tier X3D models, making it an attractive entry point for those seeking next-gen gaming performance on a budget.
