AMD has unveiled a range of new CPUs at CES 2025, with the spotlight on the high-end AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D desktop CPU, as well as the AMD Ryzen AI MAX and MAX Pro for laptops.
The flagship 16-core 9950X3D boasts an impressive 144MB of cache, offering a notable 8% performance boost compared to the already powerful 7950X3D, based on AMD’s own performance metrics across 40 games. Additionally, there’s a more budget-friendly Ryzen 9 9900X3D with 12 cores, potentially offering a better performance-to-price ratio.
Independent benchmarks will provide a clearer picture of the CPUs’ performance, allowing consumers to make informed decisions based on performance and value.
The Ryzen AI series targets “AI laptops” powered by Microsoft’s Copilot, with AMD introducing the Ryzen AI 300 and Ryzen AI Max processors, catering to creators and advanced users.
These processors feature the latest CPU core design with varying CPU and GPU core configurations to suit different price points, ranging from 6 to 16 CPU cores and 16 to 40 GPU cores. The AI capabilities are impressive, boasting 50 TOPS (Trillion operations per second), surpassing competitors in this metric.
With a TDP of 45-120W, these processors are likely to be utilized in lightweight workstations and creative laptops rather than ultramobile devices. AMD’s internal benchmarks suggest significant performance gains, such as up to 400% faster Blender rendering compared to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 288V processor.
The Ryzen AI Max processors also come in an AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO variant, catering to enterprise users with features focusing on computer and data security.
