A controversial topic: After AMD’s defense of 8GB VRAM GPUs for gamers playing esports, the company has shed light on the limited availability of Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB cards for reviewers, citing “regional market demand.”
The debate surrounding Nvidia’s and AMD’s 8GB cards continues, with concerns raised about the insufficient VRAM for modern games. Nvidia’s instructions to reviewers to not compare certain models and adjust settings for better FPS results have added fuel to the fire.
Mainstream reviewers received the 16GB version of AMD’s Radeon 9060 XT, while only a few were given the 8GB version before launch, sparking speculation about the company’s intentions to avoid negative publicity.
According to revealed AMD guidelines, global reviews of both 16GB and 8GB models were based on regional market demand.
“So in short, yes, there are some other global publications that are receiving 8GB models for testing,” the company clarified.
In a statement by AMD’s Frank Azor, the focus on 1080p gaming and the popularity of esports games globally were highlighted as reasons why 8GB of VRAM is sufficient for most gamers.
Nvidia and AMD’s claims about the 8GB cards catering to specific markets have raised questions about their previous strategies.
While some argue that the 8GB versions may not offer significant advantages over the 16GB counterparts, others defend the cost-saving aspect despite potential performance differences.
