Amazon has acquired Rivr, a Zurich-based autonomous robotics startup known for its innovative stair-climbing delivery robot. This move highlights Amazon’s growing interest in doorstep delivery services. The specific terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Marko Bjelonic, the co-founder and CEO of Rivr, described their unique four-legged wheeled robot as a “dog on roller skates.” He announced the acquisition on LinkedIn, with The Information being the first to report on the deal.
Bjelonic mentioned in his LinkedIn post that Amazon’s acquisition will help accelerate Rivr’s vision of creating General Physical AI through doorstep delivery. This partnership with Amazon is expected to facilitate the deployment of robotics and AI technology on a larger scale.
Rivr previously launched a pilot program in Austin in collaboration with Veho, a package delivery company. Bjelonic had expressed his desire to scale up to 100 robots by 2026 through this partnership, although it is uncertain if this goal was achieved.
DailyTech has attempted to reach out to Rivr for further comments regarding the acquisition.
Before the pilot program, Rivr had already attracted Amazon’s attention. The Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund and Bezos Expeditions had invested in Rivr as part of a $22.2 million seed round in 2024. The startup, which had raised a total of $25 million, was last valued at $100 million.
