The second season of House of the Dragon has concluded, but another Game of Thrones prequel is on the horizon. HBO is currently working on a series centered around Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. A recent teaser released by HBO gives fans a first glimpse of these characters.
The upcoming series, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will take place between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. It will follow the adventures of the knight errant and his squire rather than focusing on the history of warring houses.
Here is everything we know so far about this new series set in George R.R. Martin’s universe.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Release Date
Filming for the show began in June 2024. According to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, The Hedge Knight will premiere on Max in late 2025.
House of the Dragon is currently available for streaming on Max, with subscription plans starting at $9.99 per month for ad-supported viewing.
In the UK, Sky Atlantic offers the Targaryen Civil War story for Sky TV customers, while the Now streaming service has packages starting at £9.99 per month for Entertainment Membership.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Plot
The new Game of Thrones prequel will be based on George Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, focusing on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. Set 72 years after House of the Dragon and 90 years before Game of Thrones, the series will draw from three existing stories, starting with The Hedge Knight.
The official description of the show reads:
A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
George Martin has expressed his excitement for the adaptation, stating that the Dunk & Egg novellas are more like his novels and will be faithfully brought to the screen.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Cast and Crew
The executive producers of the show include George R.R. Martin, Ira Parker, and Ryan Condal. Three episodes will be directed by Sarah Adina Smith.
Key cast members include Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg.
Other actors announced for the series are Bertie Carvel, Sam Spruell, Finn Bennett, Tanzyn Crawford, and Daniel Ings.
Is there a trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
While a full trailer is not yet available, HBO has released a promo showcasing its upcoming premieres, including a first look at A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Fans can catch a glimpse of Duncan and Egg in the teaser.
What are the other Game of Thrones prequels?
