New parental controls and insights are coming soon
Dear parent,
We are excited to announce that we have been working on a series of important changes that will be implemented on your child’s Roblox account next month.
About Roblox accounts with parent privileges
Next month, we will be introducing Roblox accounts with parent privileges to allow parents to manage and monitor their child’s experience on Roblox more effectively. By linking your account to your child’s, you will be able to access and update parental controls from your own device. Additionally, parents will have insights into their child’s Roblox usage, such as daily screen time and on-platform friends.
With these changes, parents will no longer be able to set a parent PIN, use Account Restrictions, or receive account-related notifications to their parental email. Instead, parents will need to use an account with parent privileges. Existing verified parental emails on child accounts will still be used for account recovery. Any settings previously set using a parent PIN will remain unchanged, but updates will require an account with parent privileges.
For added security, users can also set up 2-factor authentication on their accounts.
Updated content maturity settings
To provide more clarity on the types of content available on Roblox, experiences will soon be labeled based on content type rather than age. Experience Guidelines will be renamed Content Labels, and parents will be able to set limits on the type of content accessible to their child through the content maturity setting in parental controls.
New default settings for users under the age of 13
In line with our commitment to safety, certain default settings for users under 13 will be updated. Starting next month, users under 13 will require parent permission to access certain chat features. Users under 9 will also need parent permission to access experiences with content maturity “Moderate.”
Your child’s settings will be automatically updated as they reach certain ages, if no changes have been made previously. Notifications will be sent to you and your child in advance of these updates.
More information on these setting updates will be provided when the changes take effect next month.
Next steps
To continue receiving notifications about your child’s account activity, including spending, you will need to set up a Roblox account with parent privileges and link it to your child’s account. Your child will receive a notification to add a linked parent account, and you will receive an email with instructions.
At Roblox, we are committed to enhancing safety features and tools to better support parents. We will continue to explore new ways to improve parental controls.
