Nintendo’s mysterious Playtest begins to leak

Nintendo has released a new test software for download before the official start of gameplay. This software requires 2.2GB of free space and participants were asked not to share any details about it, although leaks have been circulating online. Nintendo has been taking down leaked media but information about the playtest can still be found on various websites.

The new game seems to be Nintendo’s first venture into the MMO genre. Players will work together to develop a vast planet using creativity and available resources. They will encounter new lands, enemies, and resources as they progress, utilizing Beacons to create zones for development. These Beacon zones are personal to each player, allowing them to control and edit only within their own zone.

There is also a social hub called the “Dev Core” where players can level up, obtain items, and interact with others. Nintendo has included User-Generated Content features for creating and sharing custom content, but players must pass an in-game test on respectful communication to unlock this capability.

The game shares similarities with popular family-friendly MMOs like Minecraft and Roblox. It features either entirely new intellectual property or serves as a placeholder for an existing franchise. Speculation about bringing GameCube titles to the Nintendo Switch Online service can now be dismissed.
