Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered will arrive in February 2025, perhaps make Angel Of Darkness playable at last

Tomb Raider 1-3 received a remaster earlier this year, and now Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is set to follow suit. This collection will include Angel Of Darkness, a game that could greatly benefit from some updates.

Aspyr, in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics, is handling the remastering process, similar to the original trilogy remaster. The upcoming release will include 1999’s Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, 2000’s Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and 2003’s controversial Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness. Players will have the option to experience the games with their original graphics or enhanced models, along with new camera controls, quality-of-life improvements, and photo modes.

The remastered collection is scheduled to launch on February 14th for £25, and is currently available for pre-order on Steam.

The first five Tomb Raider games were released annually from 1996 to 2000 by Core Design. The Angel Of Darkness was meant to modernize the series and transition to the PlayStation 2. However, development challenges led to a rushed release that was plagued with bugs and control issues. Despite decent sales, the game received poor reviews, leading to Crystal Dynamics taking over the development of future Tomb Raider titles. Core Design eventually closed down.

Given its troubled history, The Angel Of Darkness is a prime candidate for a remaster. Some believe that the game has hidden potential beneath its flaws, though opinions on this vary.

Katharine had reservations about certain modernizations in the previous remasters. Players could choose between classic tank controls or a new control scheme that Katharine found disappointing.

The previous remaster had a cumbersome title, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft, while the upcoming one is simply titled Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. The absence of Lara Croft’s name in the title may lead to confusion regarding the protagonist.
