Gamers looking forward to a night of gaming on their PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 may face disappointment as Sony’s gaming network is currently experiencing a major outage. The official PSN Service Status page has confirmed issues affecting various platforms, including PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, and the web. The latest update at 9:21 PM ET acknowledges difficulties in launching games, apps, or network features, with Sony working to resolve the issue promptly.
Personal attempts to launch a game resulted in a “PS5 error Code WS-116522-7,” indicating a system software update failure. Players are unable to sign in, play multiplayer games, or access certain single-player games that require online connection for sign-in. Offline games, however, appear to be unaffected by the outage.
The cause of the problem remains unknown, and there is no estimated timeline for a resolution. While it may not be related to the recent bug affecting PS5 home screen artwork, updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
