Highly Anticipated: New Apple Watches Unveiled

The latest Apple Watches are finally here, with pre-orders now open. During the recent “Glowtime” event, Cupertino introduced the Apple Watch Series 10 and SE, leaving out the anticipated Apple Watch Ultra. Despite not being as rugged or water-resistant as the Ultra, the Series 10 offers some of its features – provided your phone is compatible with iOS 18.

One of the key highlights of the new Apple Watch Series 10 is its sleek design and larger screen. The Series 10 is 10% thinner than its predecessor and boasts a 30% larger display compared to Series 4 through 6 and a 9% increase over Series 7 through 9. The upgraded screen is a welcome improvement for users with larger fingers.

Enhancing performance and power efficiency is the new S10 SiP chip, featuring a 4-core Neural Engine for smoother navigation, Siri integration, and workout tracking. The Series 10 also retains the crash and fall detection from the Series 9 while introducing a Translate app through watchOS 11, powered by the Neural Engine.

The Series 10’s lighter weight is attributed to the switch to a titanium housing, offering a 10% reduction compared to the standard Series 9 and a 20% decrease from the Series 9 with a stainless steel casing.

Notable improvements in the Series 10 include a wider aspect ratio for better readability and usability, especially in messaging and email apps. The screen is also 40% brighter than its predecessor, ensuring visibility from various angles.

Apple has revamped the charging mechanism for the Series 10, enabling ultra-fast charging that can reach 80% in just 30 minutes. A quick 15-minute charge provides approximately eight hours of use, ideal for users on-the-go.

One of the standout features of the Series 10 is the introduction of Sleep Apnea notifications, allowing users to monitor their breathing patterns while asleep through the Health app. The app tracks breathing disturbances and notifies users if any abnormalities are detected.

While the Apple Watch Ultra was absent from the event, some of its features have been incorporated into the Series 10, including enhanced water resistance up to 50 meters, a depth gauge, and water temperature sensor.

Other upcoming features in watchOS 11 for the Series 10 include a Tides app for water enthusiasts and a new Swimming category in the Workout app with automatic stroke detection.

For existing Apple Watch users, watchOS 11 will be released on September 16, compatible with Series 6 watches or later, requiring iPhone Xs or later and iOS 18 for full functionality.
