Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator gain AI-generated patterns and vector graphics

Why It Matters

Adobe has been enhancing its content creation suite with generative AI capabilities, making it easier for users to automatically generate vector graphics, edit patterns and shapes, and speed up production design.

Recently, Adobe introduced new generative AI features for quick designs in Photoshop and Illustrator. The update includes Generative Shape Fill, Enhanced Text to Pattern, Dimension tool, Style Reference, and Retype, among other enhancements.

Generative Shape Fill allows users to draw outlines and automatically fill them with detailed vector graphics, offering various options for customization. Enhanced Text to Pattern generates artistic patterns from text prompts, while the Dimension tool scales design concepts for visualization.

Users can also edit patterns and vector graphics precisely with Style Reference and utilize Retype for text manipulation. Adobe emphasizes ethical AI use to avoid copyright issues, promising not to train AI on user content.

This update follows a recent controversy where Adobe attempted to claim ownership over AI-generated creations in its Terms of Service. The company quickly clarified that designers retain ownership of their work.

Generative Shape Fill, Text to Pattern, and other new features are part of Adobe’s Firefly suite, which has added multiple AI capabilities to its programs. These features enable automatic image extension, individual element manipulation, video editing, and audio separation.
