Preview Program
The Android 12L operating system, optimized for large screens, foldable devices, and Chromebooks, is the next major release after Android 12. As Android 12L approaches its final release, beta versions are being released on various devices to address bugs and familiarize users with the new features. Recently, the Beta 2 of Android 12L was made available for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro.
This release marks an improvement from the previously released Developer Preview for the Lenovo Tab, and it reportedly includes the December security patch.
It is worth noting that Lenovo has provided the Beta 2 build for download on the Tab P12 Pro. While the build offers software flashing packages and a 12L Beta 2 image, there are no specific release notes available for Android 12L on this device, making it challenging to identify the major changes introduced.
The Android 12L Beta 2, with a build size of 1.7GB, is primarily targeted towards application developers. It is important to note that this beta version is only compatible with the Wi-Fi version of the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro sold outside of China.
If you are not a developer and rely on your Lenovo Tab for daily use, it is advisable to refrain from upgrading to the beta build. Beta versions can be unstable and may lead to a less-than-optimal user experience or even result in a bricked device.
Google is expected to release three beta builds of Android 12L before launching the stable version in the first half of 2022. The Android 12L Beta 3 is anticipated to be released on February 3, with the stable version likely to follow in April 2022.
It remains uncertain whether Beta 3 will be available for the Tab P12 Pro or if the device will directly receive the stable release. As we approach the official launch, more information is expected to surface, and we will provide updates as they become available.
