Zelda might be the star of the show in Echoes of Wisdom, but it turns out Link will be playable after all

The first age-rating for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is here, and it appears that we will be playing as Link once again.

In June, during Nintendo’s annual summer direct, the developer finally announced a Zelda game where players can control the titular princess herself. Echoes of Wisdom seems to be taking a different approach, with Zelda wielding a special wand instead of a sword, focusing more on puzzles. It’s an exciting development to see Zelda taking the lead in a main series title. However, it seems that Link will also be playable in the game, as revealed by the ESRB age-rating.

“This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link,” the summary begins, aligning with what we already know about the game. “From a ¾-overhead perspective, players explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle.”

The mention of Link being playable in the game raises questions, but it is likely that players will control him in specific segments, such as the sword-fighting scenes shown in the reveal trailer. The main focus of the game seems to be on rescuing Link, so his playable parts may be limited to certain sections for narrative purposes.

The release date for the game is set for September 26, just a couple of months away, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch as usual. We won’t have to wait long to experience this new adventure in the Zelda universe.
