Keanu Reeves, the well-known action movie star, has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Japanese film HIDARI.

The pilot film for HIDARI was screened by Dwarf Studios at the Annecy Animation Showcase, where director Masashi Kawamura and producer Noriko Matsumoto confirmed Keanu’s involvement.

Reeves expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “I’m thrilled by the vision behind Hidari. It has all the makings of an exceptional film—one I’m excited to see and eager to be part of.”

The Kickstarter campaign for HIDARI raised over 15 million yen, securing funding for production. The project is still seeking additional partners for funding.

HIDARI is an original story inspired by legendary sculptor Jingoro Hidari, set in the Edo period. The film blends Japanese anime with stop-motion animation, aiming to create something unique and visually striking.

The full-length film HIDARI is set to be completed in 2029 and will feature traditional Japanese instruments and hip-hop beats in its soundtrack.
